The Silver Shark Pendant with Leather Necklase is handmade here in the Studio in Connemara.
We do have sharks cruising by our shores, especially in the Summer months. Some are 5 meters long and their dorsal fin would frighten the daylights out of you if you encountered one while swimming!
No need to panic, these are Basking Sharks and they are not interested in humans as they feed on Plankton, which are microscopic organisms.
The Silver Shark Pendant with Leather Necklace is cut out of a an Ingot of Silver that we have melted in a sand casting. We work the silver down with hammers and finally running it through a set of Steel Rollers to get the silver to its required thickness.
We anneal it several times when it hardens in the reducing process. Annealing makes it pliable.
Once cut out we then set about hammering the Shark into a three dimensional form. This process makes the Shark come Alive, it no longer is just a flat piece of Silver.
We'll have to create a Hammer Head Shark!😁
We finish the Shark with sandpaper and files. We leave the marks of files and hammers on the Shark as we feel it adds to the pieces individuality. No two Sharks swimming are alike so why have Shark pendants that were all alike?
As this is handmade and made to order please allow us 3 to 5 days to create it for you. We noticed recently that a client mistook our estimated Processing time of 3 to 5 days as the time they'd receive it!😁
